Hey!! It’s a beautiful morning here in sunny Gunny! I’m sitting outside my condo, watching my dog, Carbon, run around. While I was enjoying the sun, it occurred to me that not many people know the story behind the name "Carbon" and why it’s so special to me. So, I wanted to share!
Carbon Peak is a mountain located north of Gunnison, Colorado, not too far from town. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a third-generation Gunny local. When my grandparents still lived here, every Thanksgiving, we made it a tradition to drive up to Carbon and cut down a Christmas tree for our family. Carbon Peak was one of my PaBill’s (grandpa’s) favorite places to visit when he lived here. He passed away a couple of Junes ago due to ALS. I still cherish a picture of me, just over one year old, on my PaBill’s back while we were cross-country skiing to get a Christmas tree.
Because of our memories at Carbon Peak, I decided to name my black lab "Carbon" in honor of the beautiful mountain and as a tribute to PaBill!
I’ve added a couple of pictures below of the mountain, my crazy girl, and the one and only PaBill!
I hope you enjoy!
